FACTBase Bulletin 30 - Profile Spatial Distribution of Perth's Overseas Born Population
This Bulletin provides an overview of the trends in the number and composition of overseas-born residents of Metropolitan Perth and the Peel Region and presents a snapshot of where the overseas-born population currently reside.
Key Findings
- Perth has a higher proportion of overseas born population in comparison to Australia as a whole.
- From 1991 to 2011, the composition of origin countries started to change from European countries to Asian countries, such as India, china, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
- The geography of the overseas born population is ubiquitous as populations in SLA’s of Perth – Inner, Mosman Park, Canning, Stirling – Central, Victoria Park and south Perth have grown, where the population in SLAs of Fremantle – Inner, Rockingham, Fremantle – Remainder, Vincent and Armadale have declined from 1991 to 2011.
- Overseas born residents in the central metropolitan areas have higher educational attainment levels as measured by those with Bachelor’s degrees and higher.
- Majority of the overseas born population in the central Perth metropolitan areas are employed in the mining and professional, scientific and technical services industries.
