This FACTBase Bulletin explores an alternative landscape of power and influence based on the location decisions of multinational organisations in the Energy sector and, in particular, focuses on where Perth lies within this global network.

Key Findings
  • Australia is in the top 10 energy producing and consuming countries, with Perth being in Platts’ Top 100 energy companies globally.
  • Perth was ranked 11th, alongside Hong Kong, in the total strength of corporate presence in the top 25 cities, with Melbourne being the only other Australian city (ranked 25th).
  • Perth’s network of connectivity has strong connections with Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul and Beijing.
  • Perth’s inflow connections are 59% lower than the highest ranked cities suggesting that the position of the cities in the connectivity ranking must be viewed in the context of influence and control, not just rank.
