Sue Young
Commander of the Western Australia Police Force
Sue has been a police officer for 35 years and has enjoyed serving the community of Western Australia. She is currently Commander of the Western Australia Police Force, improving and driving services across a range of policing issues, including youth policing, family violence, mental health, prosecuting, and some transformation work in relation to our custody management.
Over the years, Sue has gained experience in both metropolitan and country policing, as well as a detective, and trainer. Sue’s leadership experience has also seen her lead metropolitan and country police teams and deliver strategic programs. Sue spent 12 months as a visiting fellow at the Australian Institute of Police Management and was humbled to be awarded the Australian Police Medal in 2017. Sue has a Masters in Leadership and Management (Policing).
Sue loves travelling around the world with her partner and has a particular soft spot for Cambodia where she helps to build houses in remote villages with the Tabitha Foundation and support the Nokor Tep Women’s Hospital in Phnom Penh. She also enjoys trying to improve her golfing skills and loves cheering West Coast Eagles to victory.
