Planning has been a key topic of interest to our members. Having recently launched our Get a Move On! report, I thought it timely to invite Gail McGowan the Interim Director General of the newly formed Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage. to give an update on the portfolios.

Gail McGowan
Interim Director General, Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.
Gail McGowan was appointed Director General of the Department of Planning in April 2014 and in April 2017 was selected to oversee the integration of the former departments of planning and lands, State Heritage Office and functions of the Department of Aboriginal Affairs into the new Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.
As Director General of the Department of Planning a key priority was ensuring that the State Government and Western Australian Planning Commission’s (WAPC) comprehensive planning reform agenda was delivered.
On behalf of the WAPC, Ms McGowan oversaw the department’s development of Perth and Peel@3.5million, a suite of draft strategic land use planning documents that consider how best to accommodate a population of 3.5 million people by 2050.
Ms MsGowan is a highly regarded leader and negotiator across industry, government and the wider community. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Communication Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Policy, and has completed the Advanced Management Program at the Graduate School of Management.
