Planning for METRONET
METRONET is the long term plan developed by the McGowan Government to connect Perth’s suburbs, reduce road congestion and meet Perth's future planning needs. Stage One will deliver approximately 72 kilometres of new passenger rail and up to 18 new stations. The job-creating program will see transport investment as a catalyst for land-use change in more than 5,000 hectares within walking distance of the new stations.
A team from across WA Government is working together to consider what people need for work, living and recreation within these future urban centres with a train station at its heart.
At this luncheon, planning for this significant program of projects will be discussed by Owen Thomas, who is leading the technical/rail design aspects and Glen Finn who is leading the urban/land use planning. Both Owen and Glen will share the project activities to date and what is planned for 2018.
Meet our speakers and panellists
Owen Thomas
Executive Director | Infrastructure Planning and Land Services, Public Transport Authority
Owen oversees the planning for the future of Perth’s rail network including its integration within the wider transport system and urban development. He also manages the PTA’s wider land assets and environmental obligations. Previously he worked as the PTA’s manager for Route and Infrastructure Utilisation Planning, and was a senior transit planner in the MAX Light Rail project team.
Glen Finn
Planning Director, METRONET/Planning Director | Policy and Priority Initiatives, Department of Planning Lands and Heritage
Glen Finn has over twenty years experience in the planning and land development industry, and has been involved in the planning of major State Government initiatives including Elizabeth Quay, Optus Stadium, Perth Convention Precinct and Forrestfield-Airport Link. Glen has worked in Australia and Europe in both the private and government sectors and is now Planning Director | Policy and Priority Initiatives at the Department of Planning Lands and Heritage, and Planning Director METRONET.
