Future Freo
Progress Tracker: Complete
Invited by a number of Fremantle stakeholders, the Committee undertook its first sub-regional project – Future Freo during 2014-15. The aim was to undertake baseline research on the region’s economic, social and demographic characteristics and compare the data to the greater Perth region and similar regions locally, nationally and internationally.
Future Freo culminated in the release of a FACTBase Special Report Fremantle as a re-connected city in December 2015. The report found that the region is an under-valued treasure that was largely by-passed by the recent mining boom, has a significantly declining economic base and needs to redefine itself to create a long-term sustainable future.
Kay Aims - The year-long project culminated in a report that:
- Documented the social, economic and demographic character of the greater Fremantle region;
- Identified similarities and differences between the greater Fremantle region and the Metropolitan area at large;
- Benchmarked Fremantle against other relevant cities; and
- Documented the strengths and weaknesses of the Fremantle region.
