Hashtag Perth

Progress Tracker: Progress Tracker: Five

2018
2020

During 2019-20, the Committee for Perth is undertaking the Hashtag Perth project to reposition the region by enhancing its reputation.

Reputation refers to the perceived and experienced capacity of the metropolis to meet demands and expectations of city stakeholders, including residents, tourists and visitors, businesses and investors from both an internal and external perspective.

Internationally, reputation has been recognised as an intangible asset and a source of city competitiveness. Strong positive global reputations underpin successful brands and have been linked to the attraction of businesses, investment and talent.

As an evidenced based organisation, the first year of the project is research intensive and will form the basis of the discussions, draft recommendations and ultimately the final report that will follow in year two.

Key Aims
  • Characterise metropolitan Perth’s current reputation as a place to live, work, visit, invest and do business from the perspective of local, national and international literature, media and stakeholders.
  • Identify how Perth’s reputation has evolved over time and understand the dynamics of this change.
  • Examine positive and negative perceptions of Perth and ascertain key gaps between perception and reality.
  • Pinpoint target markets for investors, businesses, visitors, students and talent.
  • Build a profile of the characteristics of Perth that can be promoted to different markets as distinctive to, and distinctly better than, its city competitors.
  • Articulate strategies and actions to capitalise on positive perceptions and address weaknesses identified as limiting Perth’s competitiveness.
